D4SD Competition

Problem

California is currently in the midst of one of the most severe housing crises in decades pushing residents further into outlying neighborhoods where transit service is limited or non-existent. As implementation of new infrastructure and transit services is often a multi-year process, cities need innovative solutions to provide rapid, affordable transportation to people living in these transit deserts.

Approach

The potential benefits of sAVe are extensive. As an agency-sponsored service, sAVe enables oversight of private transportation companies permitted to operate within the service area, leverages existing public infrastructure without additional private vehicles in already congested areas, provides a social opportunity with rewards incentives to residents who choose to share rides, and enables improved placemaking opportunities around transit centers like offering third-party amenities as another income stream.

Outcome

Our San Diego office was asked to speak and showcase our solution at the Design Summit.

Role: Creative Direction, Concept Development & Refinement,
App Design (UI/UX), Illustration, Branding, Motion Graphics and Web Design

As part of the submission requirements, I created a website to deliver and present the illustrated story, 2-minute video, and poster. Please visit the website and see how the sAVe App could help with San Diego's issues.

ABOUT

I've always loved to design things, but my tinkering showed me how things work, which helped me discover that creative problem solving is designing.
